We known the story of Bhishma Pithamaha who layed on arrow bed for 58 days. Also we can see people laying on needle bed very calmly.Lets see the reason behind this.

Thrust and Pressure : 

The normal force experienced by a suface is called thrust.

Thrust per Unit area is pressure.
Pressure = Thrust / Area




Pressure and Area

While applying a given force,  pressure decreases  when the area of surface of contact increases. When area decreases the pressure increases.
